Dr. Tonisha Melvin, APRN, CRRN, ANP-C, PMHNP-BC, IAYTQ-500Hr
Dr. Tonisha Melvin is a wife, mother, advanced practice registered nurse, writer, wellness advocate, and unapologetic lover of dark chocolate. She lives in the DMV with her husband of over 28 years. They have two amazing sons and their lovable Boston Terrier, Pluto. When she’s not caring for patients, you can find her snowboarding, practicing yoga, gardening, volunteering, writing, heading to the mountains, or connecting with new people who inspire growth and healing.
With more than 19 years of nursing experience, Dr. Melvin brings a rare blend of clinical expertise, leadership, and compassion to every role she serves. She earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Mercer University and was inducted into the prestigious Phi Kappa Phi multidisciplinary honor society in 2017. She holds board certifications as an Adult Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, and Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse, and has extensive experience across medical-surgical care, telemetry, spinal cord injury, peri-operative services, and intensive care. She is also a 500-hour IAYT-certified yoga provider, integrating holistic wellness into her approach to healing.
Dr. Melvin’s leadership and impact have been nationally recognized, earning her recognition as one of Becker’s Hospital Review’s African American Leaders in Healthcare in 2019, 2020, and 2022. She is a contributing author to The Charge Nurse Leader Program Builder: A Competency-Based Approach for Developing Frontline Leaders and a columnist for Phi Kappa Phi’s The Forum, where she shares insights with a focus on mental health and wellness.
Currently, Dr. Melvin serves as President and Co-CEO of DMV Medical Group, LLC, where she leads the delivery of comprehensive healthcare services throughout the DMV. She is also deeply committed to serving those who serve our country, providing care to U.S. veterans through partnerships with multiple organizations. In addition, she volunteers her expertise with the American Nurses Association and the State of Maryland’s Environmental Health Specialists Board.
Dr. Melvin is passionate about meeting people where they are and walking alongside them on their mental health journey. She looks forward to partnering with you as you move toward balance, healing, and lasting mental wellness.
